Scuba Santa

While working at the aquarium, I had some crazy opportunities for photography. When you have probably over 20,000 shutter releases in a year, this happens.

One of my favorite shoots came just after Christmas last year, and I have just recieved digital copies of them. Newport Aquarium is well-known for its Christmas programming, "Scuba Santa's Underwater Wonderland." Santa asked me while he was out of the water if we could get some shots of him with Jenny, our 10-year-old Green Moray Eel, and on one of the last days of Scuba Santa's reign of the tank, we finally got a chance to shoot.

Here are some of the results:

Update

So, for all of you who visit my blog regularly, you have probably realized that i haven't posted recently. The reason for this is that i am trying to finish my double major at Georgetown. i have not stopped taking pictures, though. I actually got a new lens for Christmas. it is a Tamron 18-200. If I had to, i would recommend it, but there are a few drawbacks with it. Low-light situations make it a difficult focus, and it is an all-around slow focus. However, if you have time to focus, it is an amazing lens. I took it to Camden, NJ over spring break and had a great time with it. Just to show you, here are some of the shots i took for UrbanPromise (www.UrbanPromiseusa.org)

All of these pictures were taken in one day in an impromptu "shoot" for UP. One of the guys from UP knew that i had a decent camera and asked if i would take some shots for them to post online. I took a few and gave them some of the better ones. They ended up on UP's MySpace and Facebook. there are more that i took on there... You should go check them out:

forgotten photos

So i was looking through my computer, figuring out what i have that i will transfer to my new laptop, and i found some pictures i had forgotten about... so here they are.

So, This was Fist Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This was the location of our first concert on spring Chorale tour. The architecture of this church was amazing, with greek columns and a variety of other older architecture.

This image is the full image used in part in "Modern Problems, Classical Solutions", my first major art piece. This was an angel at the altar of Duke's Gothic Chapel. Keep looking...

This is Duke's Chapel. say hi. It was amazing, both inside and out, with 70-foot cathedral ceilings. just amazing... hard to put into words...

More to come...

Broadway at the Beach

These two pictures were taken from the deck of the Key West Grill at Broadway at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C.. Both of them are 30 second exposures, so just imagine how dark it really was outside that night. The top picture was the most elusive of the pictures i took that night, as I had to take 6 or 7 of them just to get the shot I wanted, the fireball in the left side. There was a mini-golf place there with a volocano that spit fire, so i wanted to get that in a long-exposure shot.

More pics soon!

so - this was one of the flowers that we found on the side of the road in Arlington on the last day of spring break... i thought this was an interesting subject, as one of the most beautiful flowers was in a dangerous environment such as the side of a road in Texas... This was one of the few moments during the trip that i did not have my camera draped around my neck, so i had to pick the flower... this shot is actually taken up against the building in which we stayed... i took a couple of shots of this lovely flower, but i liked this one the best... as soon as i get the rest of my pix from arlingotn, i will put some up here...

my first shot at photblogging

hey - i realized that i have a lot of photos that i think are fairly good... and so i decided to make a photoblog of them all and i want to hear what you think about my shots...

for those of you who are wondering, i am using a Canon Rebel XT with an EFSS 18-55mm lens... good camera, and i highly sugest it... it shoots up to 8.2 megapixel pix and those pix are huge... let me tell you... bigger than desktop size...

so here goes nothing... welcome to the world of colliver images...
